A National Lottery winner who scooped the jackpot on a scratchcard has admitted swindling his mother out of tens of thousands of pounds.

Barry Perryman, 41, won £250,000 on a scratchcard with his mother Christine and father Roy in September 2014.

The defendant then abused his role as his mother’s carer to transfer sums of money from her bank account between January 2015 and December 2018.

Perryman yesterday admitted a four-year long fraud at Plymouth Crown Court.

The family, who formed a syndicate, purchased the ticket from a Londis in Keyham, Devon, and matched four numbers on a Winning 7s card.

They planned to buy a new house and car with their winnings, but Perryman later transferred sums of money from his mother’s account without her permission.

It is unclear exactly how much cash was taken, but the Plymouth Herald reported it amounted to tens of thousands of pounds.

Recorder James Bromige released Perryman on bail ahead of sentencing in August.

‘I am adjourning your sentencing until August 11, all options remain open,’ he said.

Perryman had attended the hearing in a wheelchair with his lower leg in plaster.

His lawyer Jason Beal said further medical evidence was now required.

The defendant, who won £1,000 on a scratchcard in 2013, previously had a YouTube channel in which he posted videos of himself using scratchcards.

He said in a clip after his win: ‘Hi guys, it’s Barry. I’ve been up all night; I can’t sleep;

‘I’ve been shaking with excitement that I bought a Winning 7s scratchcard yesterday and won the jackpot.’

‘But yeah, big, big bonus. We’ll be mortgage free; buy a house which I’ve always wanted; and wow, I just can’t believe it. I’m just so succumbed with shock really.

‘I can do a lot with that money and have a lot of fun.’
