Australian skincare brand Lanolips sells a 101 Ointment every minute

An Australian beauty brand is struggling to keep stock of a multipurpose salve that can be used to moisturise lips and soothe dry skin on the face and hands.

The $18.95 ‘101 Ointment’ from Lanolips has been voted the ‘world’s best lip balm’ in multiple awards and is so popular, one sells every minute.

The product is packed with ultra-pure Australian lanolin, grease extracted from sheep’s wool which mimics human oils and is often called ‘Nature’s Wonder Moisturiser’.

The formula is 100 percent natural, vegetarian and holds 400 times its weight in moisture – meaning it hydrates skin from the outside in.

The affordable beauty buy has attracted an audience of celebrity fans, including supermodel Gigi Hadid who recently named it as one of her top ‘post-pregnancy skin secrets’.

The 25-year-old first-time mum, who welcomed daughter Khai in September 2020, said she uses the multipurpose ointment in various areas of her face including her lips, cheekbones, on the tip of her nose and along the edge of her eyebrows.

‘I like to moisturise my lips after my skincare and before I start makeup, then it can kind of sit on your lips through your routine, so that when you get to lipstick at the end, it has sat for a bit,’ Gigi told Vogue.

‘This is called the 101 Ointment, but it’s like for everything.’

Why is Lanolips so popular?

The product uses naturally derived lanolin and lanolin oil, a type of wax that’s secreted from sheep’s wool and mimics human skin oils.

It has the powerful ability to hold 400 times its own weight in water, meaning it can deliver moisture back into your skin at the same time.

The balm itself isn’t greasy or sticky and it’s recommended to warm the ointment between the fingers before applying.

It’s also safe to use during or post-pregnancy for nursing mothers and newborn babies.

The elder sister of Bella and Anwar Hadid said she ‘dabs’ the ointment anywhere where her ‘skin feels dry’ including the tip of her nose, lips, cheekbones and the edge of her eyebrows.

Other celebrity fans include model turned businesswoman, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who declared her love for the product in a video uploaded to her YouTube channel in July 2020.

The 34-year-old said she always keeps a spare balm in her beach bag, adding: ‘It’s ‘nice to have just a little something on your lips.’

Fans rave about the ointment in online reviews, with many saying they love how it is neither customers ‘greasy or sticky’ and penetrates the lips to lock in moisture.

A product description on the brand’s website recommends warming a pea-sized amount of the salve between your fingers, then dabbing it gently onto your skin for best results.

Hundreds of reviewers have given the ointment a five-star rating, hailing it as their ‘holy grail’ beauty product and a ‘skin saviour’.

‘I use it every single day and am now on my fourth tube. It keeps moisture for a long time and feels great. I would highly recommend it to others,’ one woman wrote.

A second added: ‘So glad I tried this and honestly I don’t think I can go back. The formula is super hydrating and looks great on, and not too shiny as I have found with other products.’

This means the ointment acts as a dual barrier, protecting skin from environmental damage while soaking in to hydrate it at the same time.
