PSG had planned to keep working with the Argentine, despite his team’s failure to defend their Ligue 1 crown this season.

However, Pochettino has reportedly asked to terminate his contract – which was due to run until the summer of 2022.

Despite stating his desire to leave, Pochettino will reportedly respect whatever decision the club make regarding his future and will finish out this contract if asked to do so.

Should Pochettino be granted the opportunity to leave this summer, he could return to the Premier League or feature in LaLiga.

Zidane left the Bernabeu for the second time after seeing his side knocked out of the Champions League by Chelsea and finishing second behind Atletico Madrid in LaLiga.

Initially, Real wanted former Juventus boss Maximiliano Allegri to take the hotseat but the Italian club have moved quickly and he is set to replace Andrea Pirlo after an abject season in Turin.

As a result, they have turned their attention to Pochettino – who replaced Thomas Tuchel in Paris at the start of the year.

Having guided the club to victory in the Coupe de France and Trophee des Champions, Tottenham have also been linked with the 49-year-old.

Spurs are currently in crisis after their worst season in 12 years which has left them without a manager, an unsettled squad likely soon to be without its world class striker, and a furious fan base who are watching the decline unfold helplessly.

Therefore, it is believed the club will open talks with Pochettino over a dramatic return to the club.

During the talks – which are due to start next week – the former boss set to ask star striker Harry Kane to stay for one more year if he does go back to the club.

Pochettino had a largely successful spell in North London from 2014 to 2019 but was sacked in November with the side 14th in the Premier League.

However, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is thought to be considering re-hiring the popular Argentine after making a mistake in letting him go.

Nevertheless, Pochettino’s future rests in the hands of PSG’s sporting director Leonardo and will be decided in the coming days.
