Great-great-great-grandmother who has 92 grandchildren happily celebrates her 100th birthday

Meet the family spanning six generations of females – with the great-great-great grandma celebrating her 100th birthday.

With 98 years between Rose Sharp and her great-great-great granddaughter, Amelia – the family from Kent, were thrilled to be able to mark the milestone birthday all together during a family reunion on Sunday.

The 100-year-old mother of eight, is head of a huge family – and has a whopping 92 grandchildren including her great-great-great descendants.

Great-granddaughter Joanne Pendrigh says Rose is a really strong woman and having been widowed for more than 40 years is fiercely independent.

Joanne, 43, said: ‘My great gran Rose is an amazing woman. She is right at the top of our family tree and she is a really strong role model for us all. A true matriarch – who loves to play bingo.

‘She is as sharp as they come, she has seen it all, done it all and takes it all in her stride.’

Joanne, who part owns her own hair salon thinks it’s wonderful that Rose has lived to see six generations of females born after her and says Rose is very proud of her long line of family members.

She added: ‘We are a really big family, someone is always having a baby. Rose has 92 grandchildren – including great and great-great grandchildren.

‘Rose loves kids, they are all spoilt rotten.’

Rose married her late husband, William, aged 19 after friends introduced them and they were married for 35 years until William died aged just 56.

She worked in a munitions factory during WW2 and the couple had eight children, six boys and two girls, including their daughter Carol Jasper, 77.

Carol, a former admin worker, has five children, including daughter Sarah Sharp. Sarah, 60, a housewife, has seven children including Joanne.

Joanne, has two children, Sophie Taylor 23 and Danny Taylor 25, and Joanne’s granddaughter, Amelia Taylor, two, is the sixth generation female.

‘It does get confusing with so many of us.’ laughed Joanne.

‘I have tried to find other families with six living generations but I think we are quite rare.’

Rose was the 4th child born of seven, and had two sisters and four brothers – but she has outlived them all.

The family had a garden party to celebrate Rose’s birthday and were excited to reunite after lockdown.

Joanne added: ‘Rose loved receiving her telegram from the Queen and the family bought her flowers and gifts.

‘But her most precious gift is to be able to finally spend quality time together again as a family and for Rose to spend time with her gran children again. She said they have all grown so quickly over the last year.

‘During lockdown we tried to keep in touch as much as possible but with Rose’s age we couldn’t visit so it will be great for us to spend some time with her again.

‘Rose didn’t manage Facetime during lockdown but she does have a mobile which I think is very impressive for someone who is 100.

‘We are a close knit family and we try to get together as often as possible and we want to celebrate her life.

‘It’s amazing that from one woman so many families and lives have been created and we all have so much to thank her for.’

Asked the secret to a long and happy life, Rose simply said: ‘Have lots of children and take care of them. I wouldn’t have it any other way.’
