Hungary boss Marco Rossi takes aim at ‘annoying’ Cristiano Ronaldo and says the Juventus star ‘celebrated as if he had scored in the final’ after his penalty in Portugal’s Euro 2020 victory
Cristiano Ronaldo has been branded ‘annoying’ by Hungary manager Marco Rossi, who was unhappy with the Portugal star’s celebration against his team.
Hungary kept Portugal at bay until the 84th minute of their opening Euro 2020 group game before Raphael Guerreiro broke the deadlock. Ronaldo then added two more goals to give his side a 3-0 victory.
Ronaldo’s first strike, which came from the penalty spot, saw him overtake Michel Platini as the all-time leading goalscorer at the finals with 10 goals.

But Rossi was unhappy with Ronaldo’s reaction to scoring, believing his celebration was over the top.
‘Ronaldo is a great champion but at times he can be annoying,’ he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
‘After the penalty with us he celebrated as if he had scored in the final. People notice these things.’

Ronaldo reached another landmark in the international goalscoring charts during Portugal’s 2-2 draw with France.
His two converted penalties took him to 109 goals, a joint world record for men’s football.
The 36-year-old and Ali Daei, who scored 109 goals for Iran between 1993 and 2006, are the only two male players to have scored more than 90 times at international level.
He also became the top European scorer in World Cups and European Championships combined, overtaking Miroslav Klose’s record of 19.
He will be able to overtake Daei as the all-time leading international goalscorer if he can find the net in Portugal’s last 16 tie with Belgium on Sunday.
