England skipper Eoin Morgan leaves door open for Tymal Mills to make surge for T20 World Cup squad

England skipper Eoin Morgan leaves door open for Tymal Mills to make a late surge for the T20 World Cup squad, hailing the left-arm paceman as an ‘outstanding bowler’

  • Eoin Morgan claims there is still time for a ‘bolter’ to emerge in World Cup squad
  • And Morgan has earmarked Tymal Mills as a potential candidate for T20 squad
  • England are well stocked for left-armers though, like Sam Curran & David Willey

Eoin Morgan has backed the rapid left-arm pace of Tymal Mills to make a late run for England’s Twenty20 World Cup squad.

The England captain believes there is still time for a ‘bolter’ to emerge for a T20 team who completed a one-sided 3-0 series victory against a poor Sri Lanka on Saturday.

And it is the pace of Mills that Morgan earmarked as a possibility for October’s World Cup even though England are well stocked for left-armers in Sam Curran, Reece Topley and David Willey, who took three for 27 in the 89-run win at the Ageas Bowl.

‘Tymal Mills could easily present a case,’ said Morgan when asked if there were still vacancies in his World Cup squad.

‘He is an outstanding bowler and we’ve always stayed in communication with him.

‘We’ve wanted him to get fit, play as much as possible and we’ll leave him alone until World Cup time comes. Given the journey he’s been on it’s better he plays for Sussex and in the Hundred rather than trying to get fit for sporadic T20 series.’

Meanwhile Morgan confirmed the injured Jos Buttler will almost certainly miss the rest of England’s white-ball summer that starts with the first ODI against Sri Lanka at Durham on Tuesday.
