Mum shares a photo of her son’s tasty lunchbox – but is forced to defend herself over one detail that has NOTHING to do with the packed food

  • A mum has been slammed for letting her 15-year-old son work full time
  • The mum posted a picture of her son’s lunch but was attacked for her parenting
  • She said he would skip school so she gave him the option to work instead

A mum has been slammed after sharing a picture of her son’s lunch online but the criticism had nothing to do with the food she prepared.

On a Facebook page about budget-friendly family meals, the mum proudly posted a photo of the massive lunch she makes for her 15-year-old son.

But rather than focusing on the food, commenters were questioning why her son works full-time instead of attending school.

A mum has been slammed after sharing a picture of her son’s lunch online but the onslaught of criticism had nothing to do with the food she prepared

‘What kind of teenager needs to work such long hours, he should be at school,’ one woman said.

‘All these poor children not able to live as kids,’ another wrote.

While others asked how working at such a young age ‘is even legal’.

The mum explained she found out her son had been skipping school and gave him the choice to work full-time or attend classes.

‘He struggled in the classroom and hated school so he trialled working and loves it,’ she said.

Other commenters applauded her parenting.

‘I’ve been sat trawling through the comments and all I can say is hats off to you for supporting your kid’s life choices,’ one mum said.

‘It sounds like he’s doing what he loves, educating himself through his work and having a blast whilst he’s doing it. You’re the exact kind of mother I’m striving to be.’

Another said that she would rather her child be happy at work than unhappy at school.

‘If the boy wants to go ten hours a day working and earning his own money you go get it kid well done,’ another woman said.

‘Brilliant to see a kid want to go out and get it. As long as he gets his contracted breaks and he’s looked after,’ another wrote.

The mum had initially posted the picture to show her use of leftovers and explain why she always cooks more dinner than needed.

‘Leftover Mexican chicken rice, leftover spaghetti bolognese, two polony and sauce rolls, two homemade scones with butter and jam and a banana for good luck,’ she wrote on the original post.

Some people commented on the post, sympathising with the mum.

‘There is nothing on this planet hungrier than a teenage boy,’ one mum said.

‘I remember being a teenager, I was always starving, more protein in there will help,’ one man said.

‘How long does he get for his lunch break – that would take me all day to eat,’ one woman laughed.

The post attracted hundreds of comments, most of which were based on the young man’s decision to work.
