Sebastian Vettel has gone from litter picking at Silverstone to playing cupid at the Hungaroring as the Formula One star left a couple stunned after turning up to their marriage proposal.

The 34-year-old won praise from F1 fans earlier this month after he stayed behind following the British Grand Prix to help clear up after the 140,000 fans who attended the race.

And now Vettel has made a young couple’s special moment all the more magical after congratulating the loved-up pair with a handwritten letter following their engagement.

F1 fan Daniel Koronczi dropped the Aston Martin star a note after bumping into him in Hungary earlier this week.

The note was in fact an invitation containing details of his plan to propose to girlfriend Veronika Matyo outside the Hungaroring race track on Thursday night, with Daniel asking Vettel if he could attend.

After an anxious wait for Vettel outside the race track, Daniel decided to soldier on and pop the question to Veronika without the German present.

Veronika said yes and, moments later, Vettel arrived on the scene on his electric scooter with a handwritten note. The German joked: ‘Wasn’t it about half seven?’ to the delighted couple, overwhelmed with emotion after coming face-to-face with the decorated racing driver.

Things are not going so well for the four-time world champion on track, having failed to pick up points with Aston Martin in his last three races, but Vettel has shown that he is one of the sport’s good guys.

The environmentally-conscious German, who was seen wearing a t-shirt before the race that read, ‘Please don’t litter – keep it clean’, donned black gloves and gathered bottles, cups and any other bits of litter left by spectators into clear plastic bags.

He also arrived in Budapest this week donning a pair of white trainers featuring a rainbow – in a show of support for LGBTQ+ rights amid Hungary’s controversial anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.

‘The is why Sebastian Vettel is the best person of all time’, one fan wrote, responding to Vettel’s special moment with the Hungarian couple.

‘If there is one driver i would want to get congratulated by in that moment it would be Seb,’ another fan posted. ‘Seb is just wholesome.’

Vettel currently sits 10th in the Formula One drivers’ standings, having joined Aston Martin from Ferrari in the off-season.
