Bra-vo! Mother, 41, invents strapless fix for busty women after she got sick of wearing dowdy outfits on nights out

  • Bradford-based Amanda Smyth, 41, spent eight years creating the ‘Butterfly Bra’

  • Bra has been patented in the UK and is awaiting approval in Europe and the US

The backless dress has long been off limits to women endowed with bigger busts.

But thanks to a single mum from a council estate, they will no longer have to worry about straps spoiling their look.

Amanda Smyth has created an adhesive strapless bra for women with larger breasts.

The newly separated mother of two was sick of having to wear dowdy outfits on nights out and decided to design the support for her 40G bust.

The 41-year-old spent eight years on research to create the Butterfly Bra, which can hold breasts in place for 12 hours and lasts for 25 uses.

Miss Smyth, who lives in a council house in Bradford, said: ‘Trying to find a stick-on bra was so impossible and made me feel down about my body.’

She added: ‘It’s hard to keep them in place, no matter how much tape you use.’

An adhesive bra is different to a strapless bra as it has no straps or back.

Miss Smyth’s balconette design is supported by a fabric band under the bust.

It sticks underneath the breasts and is taped at the side – but is not painful to remove.

It has been patented in the UK and Miss Smyth is awaiting approval in Europe and the US.

Miss Smyth explained: ‘It all started when I was going to a christening in 2012 when I saw a beautiful backless dress that I wanted to wear.

‘I was newly single and I wanted to look good, so I bought an adhesive bra from the internet.

‘This was when I realised they are not made for big boobed ladies. I even tried the duct tape trick used by Kim Kardashian but I had no chance.’

Miss Smyth had to wear a second-rate dress that she made do with.

While working part-time at the Co-Op and looking after her young children, Alex, 10, and Bryony, nine, she decided to create her own.

Miss Smyth said: ‘Women should not be able to wear what they want just because they have big boobs.

‘Big boobs are a blessing, not something to be ashamed off and hidden under shapeless tops.

‘All women of all sizes need to love our bodies.’
