An interior stylist has shared pictures of her spectacular backyard transformation after turning an old pergola into a stunning sun-lit alfresco with a theatre room.

Emma, from Melbourne, said the renovations took just four weeks to complete after she and her husband created a warm and welcoming space for their family to enjoy.

The pair built a wall of windows overlooking their garden, painted over the dull brown brickwork, installed insulation, heating and cooling and added laminate floorboards.

‘My husband really wanted to transform this space into an “alfresco room by day and a theatre room by night”,’ the mum-of-two wrote on social media.

‘We never used this pergola area and my husband really wanted to close it up so that we get more use out of it.’

Over the next month, the pair brought their dream space to life.

‘We closed off the entire space but still kept it light and bright by adding a lot of windows,’ Emma – who shares her stunning interior styling on Instagram – said.

‘My husband did the wood frames for the wall – we used HardiePlank weatherboards for the outside and inside we used plaster.

‘We painted the entire room using a Dulux paint called builders white… closed off the ceilings with plaster and added insulation and heating and cooling.

‘Insulation and proper heating was a must as I am always very cold. We installed a split system, a large one in the right hand corner of the wall it makes the room warmer than inside and we put in insulation all through the ceilings.

‘My husband did the flooring – the floors were concrete then underlay and then laminate floorboards.’

However, the renovations didn’t come cheap, with Emma saying they spent about $30,000 renovating the 55sq m space.

Emma said her husband was ‘super excited’ after they set up his projector in the outdoor space.

‘It’s so clear the screen quality is 4K quality like a TV. It’s a Samsung brand and you just place it on a TV unit close by. No need to do anything else. And it’s visibly clear during the day too,’ she said.

After renovating their backyard area, the mum created a luxurious Hamptons-style space using beautiful sofa lounges, rugs, plants and a range of modern home décor.

Her post has since been ‘liked’ more than 1,400 times, with hundreds saying it’s one of the most ‘beautiful’ pergola transformations they have ever seen.

‘This has a lot of wow factor! Wonderful room transformation,’ one wrote, while another said: ‘Oh my this is the dreamiest transformation ever.’

And one added: ‘Oh my goodness… this is the best alfresco theatre room ever! Brilliant makeover.’
